Slowest Recommended Speed for Games?

I have satellite internet and am thinking about upgrading to Hughes Net because it's supposed to be faster than the other services. On the kind we have right now, it is slow enough that the Wii refuses to connect to the Nintendo WFC, and you can't play games like Halo online. What is the slowest speed of a connection that you can use without lag? Would Hughes be fast enough?
