Old hollywood vs new hollywood?

Back in old Hollywood the actors were signed to a specific studio and weren't paid nearly as well as today's stars are. However the executives at those studios went above and beyond to make sure that their stars names weren't ociated with scandal of any sort. A few of the major studio heads paid off the gossip columnists (Hedda Hopper was a real bee itch in her day) to keep whatever star they did catch in an uncompromising position out of their column. When the studio system ended so did all that control, and now it is what it is.
